      Following the events of All Fired Up, Colin Zhang is coming to terms with losing the last 30 years of his life as a phoenix bound to serve an evil mage. Now he's soul bonded to the man--vampire--who freed him, private investigator Evan Fournier. And while Colin's also coming to terms with his bisexuality and the loss of the future he expected to have, he's not happy being magically leashed to stay within a certain distance of Evan. If they separate too far, the backlash is excruciatingly painful, but the consequences for breaking the bond are unknown. While Evan investigates a series of videos trying to expose the paranormal world, Colin's dissatisfaction with his limited life erupts when part of his old life is endangered. VERDICT Burke's second "Ashes and Dust" series installment ends on a cliff-hanger, and trilogy readers will be anxiously awaiting the next. Hudson and Wes from the "Not Dead Yet" trilogy feature prominently in this title, so libraries that own that series will also want to collect this one.--Melanie C. Duncan
